Rafy’s Top-shelf Margarita

This is not a purists' margarita. It's a delicious party margarita.

The “ultimate” party margarita recipe; from California.  This recipe was supposed to be a secret but I stole it from SP. Sorry not sorry.

Ingredients

For one drink

  • 1.5 oz tequila
    • Suggestions: Tres Generations, el Jimador, Casadores, Conmemorativo, Herradura, 1800
  • 0.75 oz Cointreau
  • 0.5 oz orange juice
    • Suggestion: Minute Maid, no pulp
  • 3 oz Mr T’s Sweet & Sour mix (not margarita mix)
  • Gran Marnier
  • limes
  • ice

For eight drinks

  • 12 oz tequila (1.5 c)
    • Suggestions: Tres Generations, el Jimador, Casadores, Conmemorativo, Herradura, 1800
  • 9 oz Cointreau (just over 1 c)
  • 4.5 oz orange juice (½ c plus a wee splash)
    • Suggestion: Minute Maid, no pulp
  • 13.5 oz Mr T’s Sweet & Sour mix (not margarita mix) (just over 1.5 c)
  • Gran Marnier
  • limes
  • ice

Preparation

For one drink

Measure the tequila, triple sec, orange juice, and sweet and sour mix into a cocktail shaker. 

Shake and strain into a serving glass over ice.

Float Gran Marnier over the drink (0.5-0.75 oz)

Squeeze ¼ of a lime over the top

Garnish the glass with lime

Serve immediately, letting the quest stir.

For eight drinks

Measure the tequila, triple sec, orange juice, and sweet and sour mix into a pitcher.

Fill eight serving glasses with ice

Stir the mixture well and pour into pour into the glasses.

Float Gran Marnier over each drink (0.5-0.75 oz)

Squeeze ¼ of a lime over the top of each drink

Garnish each glass with a slice of lime

Serve immediately, letting the quests stir.
